Michigan Safe Use Site Project

I built and designed this tool as part of a freelance effort with a company that focuses on safe-use site public health initiatives across the country. My role here was primarily as a developer, but I also contributed significantly to the design.

This project will be hosted on the Michigan health department’s website, and the goal is for Michigan residents in need to be able to quickly locate and get directions to the nearest of a variety of safe-use-related sites, including treatment, naxolone, and clean syringe services.

The Tools You Have

The nature of the state of Michigan’s technology team meant that we were severely limited in what we could implement. This was obviously frustrating at first, but from a design perspective it forced us to focus on simplicity and ease-of-use.

In this case in particular, I think that was beneficial, as the goal of this tool was not to be flashy, or cool, or high-tech, but just to help people get what they needed quickly and without much hassle.
